My story today stared just 5 weeks ago. This were really rushed and crazy because of transfers. Sisters Pryzbyla and Sousa were leaving and so we were everywere. We came home in a rush but before we walked into the house I saw two young girls on the side of the road selling something. They lived next door and were sitting in beach chairs trying to sell little cups of popcorn. Everyone else was walking in but I decided to stay back a little and talk to them. It's normally not something I do I like to talk to parents before I talk to the kids but in this case I felt like "eh.." I talked to them for a moment and told them about English class. For a moment I was the cool American. I looked up to the second story to see their mom watching them with a pleasant smile. I told her about how we were missionaries and the work that we do. I asked if we could come by someday and share a little. She smiled pleasantly to me and said no, that they already had their own religion. That was fine with me and I just invited them to English class. The two little girls were really excited. I didn't have any money on me but said that I could give them some American money. They were super excited about that. We made our transaction and I thought that would be the last of it. The next English class we were running a little bit late and when we walked up to the church there was a small group waiting there. It was the little girl with her same cousin a little brother and her aunt. They were all smiles. They liked it and the other sisters got the mom's address. The next night we had the same little girls coming by just to say hi. Really it was the whole family. walking by but the little girls wanted to see us. Sister F Santos and I were the only ones in the house so we started talking to them and sister F Santos started teaching them all a little game. it was a hit. Our neighbors were likeing us. They came to church. It was a miracle. Not only that but they were leagally married! Wowzers! The mom started asking questions and really we didn't even teach them a real leason just talked about our beliefs. She continued and said that this last month was the first time in her life that she had ever really prayed from her heart. She recieved an answer and that same week was when I got my craving for popcorn. The first time we went to thier house we taught them about the Plan of Salvation and then right then and there invited them to start preparing to go with their family to the temple. They accepted. This week we had the amazing chance to watch this family get baptised. One year from now Sister F santos and I will be returing to watch them be sealed together as a family in the temple.
If I could put a theme to the things that I am learning here on my mission it would be the importance of family and the fact that this life is just a spot in the great plan that God has for us. I'm so greatful for the knowledge and the peace it brings. Today really is just today so we should't sweat the small stuff but at the same time, one choice can change eternity. It reminds me of those commercials..
Popcorn: .50 cents
Mission: (a little more)
Having a small part in someone else's eternity...
Priceless.
